Midland Scientific is celebrating its 35th year in business. To think, Midland Scientific started as a one person company selling Mallinckrodt Chemicals.

The company has grown into a full line distributor of laboratory supplies and equipment. This success is due to the dedication of our employees and the loyalty of our customers. We can’t thank either group enough! Most importantly our customers, as our owner Vivian always says "the customer pays the bills!"

• The original owner of Midland Scientific was John Gondring. He got his start in the business as a sales representative for Mallinckrodt Chemicals. Midland Scientific’s Davenport warehouse and operation was started in 1976.
• Midland Scientific has 3 employees each with over 33 years with the company (they were all original employees and have never left).
• Vivian Pappel purchased the business in 2007. Midland Scientific became a certified woman-owned business in 2009.

Midland Scientific serves the industrial, educational, and research markets focusing its sales force in the Midwestern region of Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Dakotas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri. Midland Scientific supplies a very diverse line of products with over 20,000 Stock Keeping Units ( SKUs). The company has warehouses in Omaha, Nebraska and Davenport, Iowa.

Midland Scientific was founded on April 1, 1975 by John Gondring in Omaha, NE. The company’s objective was to meet the needs of industrial and commercial laboratories in the upper Midwest. The company has had a 35 year history of growth adding new customers, new territory and new brands.. John and Maggie Gondring sold the business to Vivian Pappel in January of 2007. Vivian kept the old traditions of the company and added technology and innovation. She has been careful to keep the focus on the customer.

Midland Scientific originally sold only Mallinckrodt Laboratory chemicals. Over the years, many additional suppliers were added to the company’s offerings. Today, Midland Scientific has grown into a full line distributor of laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals, representing over 200 manufacturers. In addition to chemicals, other major product lines include: glassware, plasticware, filtration, ph equipment, thermometers and hydrometers, microbiological products, containers, gloves, protective apparel and much more. The current catalog contains well over 20,000 items on over 1000 pages.
