Midland Scientific is focused on Sustainability

Midland Scientific strives to provide the best services while being as environmentally and socially responsible as possible. It is important to reduce our carbon footprint within our facilities and provide outreach to our communities while still being a successful business that feeds into a healthy economy. This is why sustainability is so important.

Alex Holida was named Sustainability Coordinator at Midland Scientific and she will head the effort to make MSI more green. "My interest in this role began with wanting to ensure we were using all resources available to us for recycling within our headquarters. This quickly expanded to assessing multiple areas of our facility and continued to grow from there." Holida says, "As a Sustainability Coordinator I hope to continue identifying and targeting areas for improvement, as well assist in implementing other employees’ ideas, with the hope that we become a leader in the sustainability movement seen in our industry."

She continues, "We plan to expand on our existing energy audits at all MSI locations to identify ways to further reduce output, and we are recruiting more volunteers to commit to a “Green Team” at each location. As the market within the United States open up to more options, we hope to purchase electric vehicles for our delivery routes. In an effort to support social sustainability, Midland will continue to encourage employees to participate in projects that serve our community" 

MSI's new building in Davenport opening November 2020 will be completely sustainable. New construction provides us the opportunity to oversee what materials are going into our building and find ways to make it as green as possible. We are excited to be partnering with Iowa Solar to install solar panels on the roof with a goal of 125% energy offset. Our contractor, Build to Suit, implemented a variety of environmentally conscious features including (but not limited to) low GPM plumbing fixtures, tinted glass, high efficiency HVAC equipment, and R-25 wall insulation and R-38 roof insulation.
