A fully disposable version of the traditional scalpel. The surgical blade comes pre-loaded on a plastic handle and is fixed in position. The Cincinnati Surgical disposable scalpel includes a plastic guard which is designed to protect the cutting edge until the point of use.

The number 10 blade has a significant curved cutting edge, is considered one of the more traditional blade shapes, and is primarily used for making incisions and cutting soft tissue.

The size 11 blade is an elongated triangular blade. It has a strong pointed tip making it ideal for stab incisions needed when lancing an abscess or inserting a chest drain. Surgical blades size 11 are also used for making other small incisions. Examples include when inserting a laparoscopic port, vein and artery central lines ,opening the aorta and removing calcification in the aortic or mitral valves, anatomical dissections and surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremities in Podiatry.
