Nutrient Gelatin is used for the detection of gelatin liquefaction by microbial species.
- Peptone and beef extract supply nutrients for growth
- Gelatin is the substrate for determining gelatinase production
- Not recommended for fastidious species and obligate anaerobes
Nutrient Gelatin is made in accordance with the formula formerly used in the examination of water, sewage, and other materials of sanitary importance. Nutrient Gelatin is used chiefly for identification of pure cultures of bacteria that are not particularly fastidious with regards to nutritional requirements.
